Baby Bunting, Baby Showers and Gift Registeries

I’ve been looking forward to having a baby shower since I went to my friends about 5 months ago. She had a ‘high tea’ at her mums, full of delicious food, Champagne (and soda water for the preggies), some non dorky, ‘name the celebrity baby name’ games and of course the gift giving.

She was given a huge range of awesome gifts, things I would never have thought of buying her (I brought nappies – it was my first baby shower, and had absolutely no idea, but she did say that she has only just run out of nappies last week!). But at the same time, I also hate the ‘obliged’ gift giving of occasions like this, especially as someone buying a house and being strapped for cash!

Originally when I wrote this article I set up a gift registery at Baby Bunting, with the idea that people could contribute a unspecified amount, and then we could use the money towards whatever we wanted when we went shopping, like the big tickets items i.e prams and car seats. However when I spoke to Baby Bunting, they said you had to choose items, and people could come in and purchase those items. I have since spoken to Motherworld on Pakington Street and they do this account type registry, that I can set up and people can call or drop by to contribute towards.

So now I’m off to set up an account, and once the baby shower is over we’ll be able to go in and purchase anything we like!

Have you ever used a registry for your baby shower?
